And for breakfast? Picnic!

Today in the morning we went to Farmer's Market near Montecasino, it was a very cute market. It was an outside market, and you could find lots of stands, selling: cheese, honey, bread.... even kits to make your own beer at home!!! And there were also places to eat, like crepes, tacos, smoothies... We decided to buy some cheese, cold meats and coffee and sit in one of the sunny picnic tables to eat it. It was a nice, relaxing morning.

In the afternoon we played a board game that we bought recently, is a kids game, but it was so fun hahah basically is about the animals in Africa... for me a little bit difficult, but after the bush, I know much more hahaha!

Grand Opening

Sorry I haven't posted a lot this week but it has been really hectic! Wednesday was a busy day, we did a cocktail training, and we learnt the most important cocktails...
On Thursday, we were all making the last preps for the grand event! On Friday we were waiting for the people to come, and see the shop, yesterday was for the VIP people, there was about 200 people coming! The night was really really nice, I met new people, and I had lot of fun. During the event, there were different "activities" such as, whiskey tasting or a big raffle. All our guests were very very happy and loved the shop :)
Saturday was another story, we had lot of people coming in, looking the shop, having a beer, a coffee, and at one stage the shop was crowded! People buying accessories... We also had a braai where we were selling Boerewors, people just enjoy it! In the afternoon we went to help a little at the restaurant and we had dinner at Il Localino, after we were waiting for S to finish her trade there.
Now we are home, and this two days have been really amazing but veeery tiring, time to rest!

Day 2: The bush!

On Monday, we were waken up at 5.30, during the night there is security walking around.  We had a coffee and after that at 6.30 am, the second drive started! It was so cold! My eyes were crying haha, the animals were all sleeping, we barely saw anything! Lots of birds, and vultures! Before going back we ate something there, and we walked for half an hour, the guides were showing us tracks, and different things from the trees, it was very interesting. We were lucky and we saw giraffes, zebras, and a big group of buffalos, next to a big lake. Also, like on Saturday, there where lots of impalas... is like McDonalds, everywhere you can find them haha. But there was no trail from the elephants, neither the rhinos :(.
When we arrived at 10 to the lodge, we had a big brunch waiting for us :P After we went to the sunbeds, and we were there resting, after, we had lunch and the last drive was starting... I was hoping to see elephants and rhinos. Our first stop was in a lake, there we saw lots of hippos! sunbathing and bathing in the lake, they were sooo cute!! In the lake we also saw crocodiles, lying in the sun. After that, we went to look for the elephants and we found them! They were eating the brunches from the trees, amazing! After that we went to find the rhinos, our guides were following the tracks and the droppings, and amazingly they found them!! 6 big rhinos! We were really close to them!
We stopped in between two lakes, we saw the sunset, and we had a Gin&Tonic, with biltong, very very nice, and so peaceful. When we were going back to the lodge we saw hienas, they got scared, but when they saw that we were not going to hurt them, then started to approach us.
At the lodge, again we ate in the Booma, and we went to sleep.
I saw the big five!!: Buffalo, Lion, Rhino, Elephant and Leopard.

Tuesday, we woke up at 6, we had breakfast and we left that paradise :( Back to the road, and back home!

THE BUSH

I am going to explain the amazing trip we did to the Bush in Kruger Park. We woke up at 5 in the morning, it is 6 hours far from home... so we left at 6. After 3 hours at the car, we stopped to eat something, we stopped in Dullstroom a cute town and we ate pancakes, they were so nice!!! After having breakfast we continued our trip, we bought Biltong also... as soon as we entered the gate of the Kruger Park, you have to drive maximum 50km/h because there are no fences, and you might see wild animals, we saw giraffes, warthog (pumbas :D), and rhinos!! By 2pm we arrived to the lodge, it was so cozy, there where 15 little houses, with one room in each, I got the Zebra room :P, they advised us that during the night you can not go out your room because there might be wild animals, because there are no fences.
There we ate lunch, next to warthogs, and kudus. At 3.30pm our first drive started, we were alone in the Land Rover. We found a Leopard lying, the night before he ate a warthog, you could see a part of it in the tree! After that we went to find the lions, and we found them, they were eating an impala! There where two females and one male, really really amazing to see them so close, and when they saw us, they did not move. After that it was already dark, we had some drinks and biltong before going back to the lodge. When we arrived to the lodge, they escorted us to the Booma, is the place where we were going to have dinner, is an open space with a fire in the middle and tables around. The dinner was great. We were so tired that we went to sleep, also escorted to our rooms.

SO(uth)WE(st)TO(wnship)

(Yesterday, we had a nice evening out in a french restaurant, we had so nice food!)

Today in the morning we went to Soweto, is famous because it was were Mandela and Tutu lived, and also because the 16 June 1976, there was a big protest that erupted over the government's policy to enforce the language of Afrikaans, a big mass of students were marching from Naledi School to  the Orlando Stadium, the police tried to stop them and they killed 23 people and one of them was Hector Pieterson, this boy is famous because he appears dead in the unique photo from that day, the Soweto Uprising. Nowadays, the 16th June is the International Day of the African Child.
We took a private tour guide, he is german, and he really really did a very nice job, he really felt what he was explaining, and everything he explained was really emotional. He drove us to lots of places, important ones, and as he knows lot of people, we could really see how the situation is, we met also a family that are living in a community. The ladies explained us that there are still lots of children that haven't seen white people, and when they see them for first time, they run because they are afraid! Afterwards we visited a bar that are called Shebeen because previously were bars without licenses to sell alcohol, there we tried the Joburg beer, really different and white!!.When you see people you just put your thumb up, and say something like "sharshar" as a greeting sign.  I think it was a really nice experience, and really worth to see how they live, and how they accept white people and they live all together without any problems. We saw the Hector Pieterson Memorial and also we went to the two Cooling Towers, there they do Bungee Jumping and Free Falling and in the bottom of the towers there is a really cool bar with braai where you can choose the meat you want. We have to go back!! Another thing that impressed me it was one sculpture at the end of the famous Vilazaki Street (Where Mandela and Tutu lived), in the sculpture you can see VILAZAKI in the sign language. The people here when they go by taxi, they do signs to indicate the taxi driver which is their destination, and they use this "signs" that appear in the sculpture.
Finally we got home after a long tour, and now I can say that this is a really nice society with a very hard past, and building a successful future.

For sure, I am forgetting lots of things... if I can think of anything else, I will write it!
